Once all the misc had been removed, it was time to remove the inlet manifold and exhaust manifold.
The inlet manifold is held on by 4 bolts and 2 nuts. Make sure you remove all the ancillarys first. The inlet (manual choke) has 3 inlets, 1 breather hose, 1 coolant hose and 1 vacuum hose (that connects to the servo.
If like me you choose to leave the carb all connected remove the choke cable and accelerator cable too. Mine is a 32/36 weber. The choke is connected here:
The exhaust manifold is simple (if the bolts aren’t ceased up) 8 bolts in total and the clamp to remove and the exhaust should lift out. Note I have a sportex exhaust fitted to my car to improve flow. This is not standard and the original differs just slightly.
Finally there is the fuel pump to disconnect, the ht leads to disconnect (take note of how these are connected and what order) and the negative earth from the battery. This how the block looks now:
The plan is to clean up the whole block and stick with a black/silver/chrome base. Along the way I plan to change all the gaskets, seals and perhaps do some head work.
